Explore Osceola County

Named after the Second Seminole War leader, Osceola became Florida’s 40th county in 1887. Osceola County became a center of trade and commerce from railroads and riverboats. The lumber industry also played a big role in the history of the county. Previously home to Florida crackers and cowmen, the area has most recently experienced growth from its proximity to Walt Disney World. Osceola County has a long archaeological history that is still being investigated.
