Connect with the past on a walking tour of the Miami City Cemetery with Resident Historian, Dr. Paul S. George and HistoryMiami Museum’s Coordinator of Education Programs and Community Engagement, Ingrid E. Argueta. Founded in 1897, just a year after the city’s incorporation, this historic graveyard is a monument to so many of the people who helped shape the early history of the Magic City. Hear stories of notable Miami residents, including civil rights leader Reverend Theodore Gibson, “Mother of Miami” Julia Tuttle, and Bernard Mackey of the Ink Spots Quartet. View the final resting place of Carrie B. Miller, whose body was encased in cement to preserve her sleeping form.

During the program, engage with an archaeologist from the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN) and learn about the critical roles of an archaeologist and the work FPAN leads in the protection and preservation of cemeteries.

All are welcome to come as you are or in costume!

Presented in partnership with Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN)
